The Race Management program has been developed by the Canadian Yachting Association to provide safe and standardized regatta management to competitorsClinics may be arranged at Clubs on request. Officials can be certified at four levels Please contact Keith Driver (780) 465-4607 for more information () The CYA is currently reviewing the syllabus and material related to the various levels in Race Management, however, at the last CYA Annual General meeting a new title to each of the levels was approved, as well as the requirements for certain levels to run specific regattas such as national, regional, and provincial regattas.
The current program is as follows:
Club Race Officer (formerly Level One Race Officer)
Capable of assisting in running sailing competitions at the local/club level
Prerequisites: None. However, some practical experience as a sailor is an asset. The certification involves attendance at a Club Race officer’s seminar where the specific duties of the different positions within the Race Committee are presented.
Provincial Race Officer (formerly Level Two Race officer)
Capably of running regattas at the Club or Regional level
Prerequisites. Two years experience as a Club RO and completion of the provincial Race officer Seminar that involves practical aspects of Race Committee Organization.
NOTE: Both of the above positions a can be approved by the Provincial Association and can be re-certified every four years following attendance at a number of regattas in one of the official positions.
Canadian Race Officer (formerly level Three Race officer)
Shall be capable of acting as the principal Race officer at regattas such as provincial Championships, District championships, smaller national regattas and large multi-class regattas.
Prerequisites: Two years experience as a Provincial Race Officer. Submission of a resume of regattas run, positions held including copies of Sailing Instructions and Notices of Race, attendance at a Canadian Race Officer seminar, and references by Senior Canadian Race Officers or Judges or higher.
Senior Canadian Race Officer (formerly Level Four Race officer)
Shall be capable of acting as a Principal Race officer at National and International Regattas.
Prerequisites: Two years experience as a Canadian Race Officer.

B. Canadian Judge Program
The Canadian Judge Program has been developed to provide qualified, trained individuals to act as judges and protest committee chairmen, as well as providing an opportunity to enthusiastic sailors who are keen to be involved in conducting fair protest hearings at all level of competition.
The program has been structure into four levels along much the same lines as the Race Officer Program. Interested individuals who wish to become judges should contact the ASA office at (780) 427-8169 or . The certification and re-certification follows the same pattern as the Race Officers program.
Club Judge
Prerequisites: Some practical sailing experience and an interest in Protest Committee work including a good knowledge or the Racing Rules of Sailing and the running of a protest hearing.
Provincial Judge
Should be capable of functioning as jury chairmen for events at the local and regional level.
Prerequisites: Two years experience as a Club Judge.
Both of these positions a can be approved by the Provincial Association and can be re-certified every four years following attendance at a number of regattas in one of the official positions.
Canadian Judge
Capable of running a jury and functions as a jury chairman for regattas such as provincial championships, district championships or large multi-class regattas.
Prerequisites: two years experience as a Provincial Judge.
Senior Canadian Judge
Must be capable of chairing juries at National and International regattas. They are often asked to be members of International juries.
Prerequisites: Two years as a Canadian Judge.
